DeWitts Corner Spinel Field Trip
September 27 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
DeWitts Corner, south of Perth, is known as one of the finest spinel crystal locations in Canada. It was originally a calcite mine for feeding a local kiln back in the 1840s.
Note: View Doug Scott’s Blog article about Dewitts Corner being lost and found again for a fascinating deep dive.

Other minerals besides spinel that may be found include calcite, corundum, rare, hogbomite, magnetite, hornblende, diopside and scapolite.
After about an hour’s drive from Ottawa and a short easy walk, we will arrive at the spinel pits. Please go the Tim Hortons in Perth on the main Route 7: 98 Dufferin St, Perth, ON K7H 3A7 as we will meet there 10:00 am and then follow each other to the location.
