OVMC January 2025 Meeting – Crystal Habits and Forms, and What They can Tell us
January 23 @ 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

5:30 PM Mineral Identification
“Rock Doctor” Clinic: Starts at 5:30, ends at 6 PM. Members are free to bring in a reasonable number of samples or specimens to be identified by the expert mineralogists in the club. This has been a very popular activity for the membership (at times exceeding our capacity to deal with everyone present!).

Speaker: Dr. Inna Lykova, Research Scientist and Acting Curator of Mineralogy at the Canadian Museum of Nature
Topic: Crystal habits and forms, and what they can tell us.

Dr. Lykova will talk about different shapes of crystals and their aggregates, and how they can help us decipher the origin and geological history of a mineral specimen.
Inna joined the Canadian Museum of Nature in 2019 after working as a research scientist at the Fersman Mineralogical Museum RAS, Moscow, Russia, for six years. She is the lead author or co-author of over 70 papers and has described 40 new mineral species.
