Amherst Island Fossil Field Trip

FreeAmherst Island is located just south of Kingston. We will meet at the Ferry at 10:00 am. After a short ferry ride at 10:30 am, we plan to visit two fossil locations: 11:00 am at Topsy Farms and in the afternoon at the far south-east end of island near the bird sanctuary.
Note: We did attempt to find a fossil location near Ottawa but quarries are getting more and more restrictive while the other possible fossil locations are on property where collecting is not allowed. We are in discussions with our sister club: EONS.
Last year the group who went to Amherst Island did find some excellent fossils and the Topsy Farm is willing to let us go on their private beach.

Fossils include crinoids, brachiopods, bryozoan, snails, corals, trilobites about 400-450 million years old. It is a short walk from parking areas. A detailed ID guide will provided to all attendees.
