The January meeting looks most interesting, and extremely informative!
Looking forward to seeing many new members there.
Keep up the good work OVMC team. The website has really blossomed!
wow! what a wonderful website. Good job to those who contributed, and especially to the person who did all the layout and planning. It looks great.
Thank you Morgan… our webmaster, John Leggitt, is indeed great at his volunteer position!
Hello to this great new system!
The new website looks great – looking forward to the changes coming up! Well done John.
Hi. I used to be an amateur (very amateur) rock and mineral collector. I’m in the process of downsizing and I’d like to reduce the size of my collection. Can anyone suggest someone or someplace where I can do this? I’ve recorded details of each piece in a notebook. I plan on keeping the notebook as a memory. This is a give-a-way … I’m not trying to make money from this. Thanks.
Much appreciated Jay-Dee. See our News articles on the News page
Looking forward to the Amherst Island outing. Can someone tell me exactly where the fossil beds are and where we should be parking?
We hope to visit two locations. The first one will be at Topsy Farms who is allowing us to visit their beach and cliffs area so we plan to meet at 11:00 am at their location on the island. In the PM, we will go to the second location which is at the bird sanctuary at the south-east end of the island along the shore.
A more complete detailed email will be send out to all attendees a few days in advance of the trip.
I am a new member. I would like to participate to the session on Thursday pertaining to fluorescent minerals: do we need to register to the event or just we just need to show up?
There is no need to register for meetings, only for field trips. All members are welcome to just show up for meetings. At 5:30 pm, we have the Rock Doctor help identify minerals and a Youth activity is available to younger members. The meeting starts at 6:00 which is usually very short and immediately followed by the Guest Speaker presentation. we look forward to seeing you on Thursday.
One suggestion for the club would be to have the guest speakers talks available to view online for club members who might not be able to attend in person.
That is a good idea. We are not setup for recording or live streaming at this time but will investigate the feasibility. Thanks, OVMC Leadership
If you have Microsoft Teams, you can do a meeting from a laptop and record it for future viewing.
The fun part about a Team’s meeting is you can have people participate, you can mute people during the presentation to avoid noises, people can raise their hand if they have a question or put something in the chat.
And if you set it up in the options, you can also have it transcribed and translated to French.
Thank you for that information. We are looking into the best options for us.

Hello, my son and I will be driving in from Montréal for this week’s meeting. As I’m not familiar with the Canadian Museum of Nature, whereabouts in a museum will it be held? And I assume it is paid parking?
Thanks!
Currently we hold the meetings in the left side of big area past the gift shop and restaurant. Parking is paid but the Museum is free on Thursday nights. When you enter through the main doors, on the main floor, turn left and go down to the end.
John Leggitt
Thanks!
