SUMMARY:OVMC November 2025 Meeting - The Pleasures of Micromounting
DESCRIPTION:6:00 PM Mineral Identification and Swap Shop \n\n\n\n“Rock Doctor” Clinic: Starts at 6:00\, ends at 6:30 PM. Members are free to bring in a reasonable number of samples or specimens to be identified by the expert mineralogists in the club. This has been a very popular activity for the membership (at times exceeding our capacity to deal with everyone present!). \n\n\n\n“Swap Shop”: Calling all collectors! The OVMC Swap Shop is open for all members (adults and children). Mike and Tara will have several treasures to trade including small crystals\, fossils\, polished rocks and the occasional plastic dino!  Donations towards the Swap collection is appreciated! Local and international samples accepted. No large samples please. \n\n\n\n6:30 PM Meeting \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Quintin Wight\, Micromounter and Author\, RCAF (Retired) \n\n\n\nTopic: The Pleasures of Micromounting \n\n\n\nMicromounting is the facet of mineral collecting dealing with the collection\, mounting\, and study of microscopic minerals under the microscope. Under the microscope these micro-minerals reveal an often incredibly beautiful miniature world of crystals in delicate forms that surpass anything possible in larger samples. \n\n\n\nQuintin is one of the world’s top experts in this field\, not only wrote the literal book on the subject\, “The Complete Book of Micromounting”\, he writes the annual review of happenings in this field for Rocks and Minerals magazine.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLocation and Directions: Canadian Museum of Nature\, 240 McLeod St.\, Ottawa. Enter through the main entrance and turn left\, go to the end of the hall past the cafeteria.
