SUMMARY:Long Lake Zinc Mine Field Trip #2 (Evening)
DESCRIPTION:The Long Lake Zinc Mine (Sometimes called the Richardson Mine) started in 1897 with a number of mining operations in the early and mid 1900s focusing on zinc and lead ores. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMinerals that can be found in the mine dumps (as shown above) are: aragonite\, calcite\, chondrodite\, diopside\, dolomite\, hydrozincite\, smithsonite\, galena\, chalcopyrite\, molybdenite\, pyrite\, pyrrhotite\, quartz\, sphalerite and ‘garnet group’    (Italics: fluorescent minerals). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will have dark boxes to view fluorescent minerals but since night comes early in late October\, we expect to see the many fluorescent minerals glowing over the whole area. \n\n\n\nParking is very close to the site. \n\n\n\nSee our Blog Article for tools and what to bring: Gearing Up: Must-Have Tools for the Aspiring Rockhound.
