DESCRIPTION:5:30 PM Mineral Identification \n“Rock Doctor” Clinic: Starts at 5:30\, ends at 6 PM. Members are free to bring in a reasonable number of samples or specimens to be identified by the expert mineralogists in the club. This has been a very popular activity for the membership (at times exceeding our capacity to deal with everyone present!). \n6:00 PM Meeting \nSpeaker:  Dr. Inna Lykova\, Research Scientist and Acting Curator of Mineralogy at the Canadian Museum of Nature \nTopic: Crystal habits and forms\, and what they can tell us. \nDr. Inna Lykova holding a world-class catapleiite crystal from Mt. Photo by Pierre Poirier/CMN\nDr. Lykova will talk about different shapes of crystals and their aggregates\, and how they can help us decipher the origin and geological history of a mineral specimen. \nInna joined the Canadian Museum of Nature in 2019 after working as a research scientist at the Fersman Mineralogical Museum RAS\, Moscow\, Russia\, for six years. She is the lead author or co-author of over 70 papers and has described 40 new mineral species. \nLocation and Directions: Canadian Museum of Nature\, 240 McLeod St.\, Ottawa.
